The continuing demand from inter-State buyers has lifted pepper rates by ₹1 a kg in Kochi on Friday.
Kishore Shamji of Kishor Spices claimed the demand from Tamil Nadu is continuing and the supplies from Karnataka are in total swing, particularly with the availability of pepper in extra quantities.
The industry seems to be continual and the rates are inching up on a everyday basis, he claimed.
Today’s offtake was 22 tonnes, of which 20 tonnes arrived from Wayanad and the remaining from the plains of Kerala.
Ungarbled versions realised ₹314 a kg, while MG1 garbled versions stood at ₹334.
New pepper was quoted at ₹304.
