German Navy, Eyes on China, Adds to Europe’s Pacific Presence

TOKYO—The German navy’s flagship will sign up for exercises with the U.S. and its allies in the western Pacific, a modest but symbolic broadening of an alliance of democracies countering China’s escalating maritime power.

The Bayern, a frigate that not too long ago frequented Australia and Guam, docked in Tokyo on Friday. The ship held exercises with the Japanese navy this 7 days and will sign up for the U.S., Canadian, Australian and Japanese navies to make interoperability abilities from Nov. twenty to thirty, according to German officers.
