BERLIN—Gunmen killed eight individuals Wednesday night in shootings in central Germany that have remaining police guessing about the motive and the quantity of shooters, who continue being at big, police said early Thursday.

The assaults took area all-around 10 p.m. neighborhood time when the gunmen opened fireplace on patrons of a hookah lounge in downtown Hanau, in close proximity to Frankfurt, and then fled in a dim automobile, police said. They later resumed shooting in a different section of city.
