2011 and earlier 2011: Jan 9th:
Already the new year and so much for pledging to keep my site more up-to-date.
We've been busy having puppies: 4 boys born Jan 7th, all doing very well
(update 3:52pm. Orange boy died for no obvious reasons).
Weights between 13oz and a 1lb at birth, they're piling on the weight now.
It's been very interesting having such a small litter; things went a little
differently to my past experiences. For instance, despite Gwynnie being an
experienced mother, we had primary inertia which required a huge shot of calcium
to overcome - the puppies were late and at risk so we went to the vets to make
sure all was well. Wilsonville was wonderful and with their help (and no
c-section!) we got all 4 boys born naturally and with very little stress.
Mom is doing a fantastic job with them and they are coming along well.
I've taken a couple of photos with my phone camera (awful!) which you can see on
FB, but I'll get my regular camera charged up so I can take some decent shots of
the little slugs. 2010: December 18: Jon and Ann lost
Gwillym
today after a crisis with his irritable bowel problem. I'm so sad: Gwillie was such a special boy and much loved. He was the last born
of the 'G' litter and he and I grew very close. He was staying with me but
then the time came that it seemed right for me to share him with Jon and Ann.
I will never forget him meeting Jon for the first time and seeing an instant
bond form: absolutely meant to be. Thank you Jon and Ann for giving him
such an incredible home...I wish I could have made it last 12 or more years.
December 7: Has it really been this
long since I last updated things. Shame on me!!! So some good news
and some more sad news. First the good news. We're expecting puppies
Jan 4. Mom is
Gwynedd and Dad is a very handsome young Australian lad
called Raz Claidhembor
Erasmus Fitzhugh (pedigree). We are very excited about this breeding!
Check out the puppies
pedigree
August 8: Very sad news as we say goodbye to Lorna Doone who died quietly in her sleep this morning. She had a wonderful life with Duff and Mary Weddle in Tulsa OK, and was mentor extraordinaire for young Indie (Tannochbrae's
Indira of Glencrag).
July 3: Shocking sad news as we have
lost our Gaelic
to Osteosarcoma. Compared to our B and D litters where there was an expectation
of this disease happening, Gaelic was not at the same risk. We are very
sad, and I know Marilyn is devastated.
June 26-27: Louie picks up two more points at Canby. Way to go Peggy and Louie!
June 19-20: A small entry this year at CHA. Gwynnie, in her first outing since finishing, picks up BOS, and her first Grand Champion points! And Ella looked fabulous as a Veteran. She continues to get better with age, looking more
like Blaven every year. Great job Denny, keeping her so fit and well.
June 15: Ahem....I really need to
dedicate more time to my own website! Thanks Bob (Wilkins) for continuing
to prod me..
Happy Birthday to the Huppies! 5 years old on June 8th, and
apart from the sad loss of Harry to pneumonia, all are doing just great. I
got to see Hanna and Patryn (aka Hectic Henry) in Vermont this year and I was
delighted with them. Hanna is more beautiful with every passing year, and
Patryn is almost the spitting image of his dad Tam. And the grandkids are
lovely!
On a sad note, we lost Seamus very unexpectedly, and for no good
reason, last Monday. Malignant hyperthermia caused by use of Torbutol
(absolutely contraindicated for Deerhounds). We all need to stay vigilant
and be tough with our vets about what they give our dogs. Much as I have
hated to want to do this, moving forward I will be carrying a list of do/don't
drugs with me on all trips to the vet. I have been posting a series of " to want to do this, moving forward I will be carrying a list of do/don't
drugs with me on all trips to the vet. I have been posting a series of "quick guides/reference lists" to the Health section of the SDCA website -- be sure to bookmark it.
May 11-16: National Specialty week.
What a great time I had! Vermont in the sunshine was a delight. And so much cooler than 2004, when we sweltered in 80+ heat. This time it was typical temperatures, with cool (actually cold!) winds to remind us we were still early in the year. I saw some fantastic dogs this year, some
wonderful puppies (almost brought one home....bad Lyn!), got to visit with friends and family. The official DVD should be great this year so make sure to get your copy (yours truly, and Bob are the narrators)!
Oh, and happy birthday to the "F" kids, 7 years old on the 13th.
All going strong
April 12: Happy Birthday to the remaining
"D" kids: Andrew, Siobhan, and Seamus. Who can believe they are 9
years old!
April 10: Happy first Birthday to Julia's
first litter! Can't believe Sam is now a year old (ah, but there are days
I want him to stop being a puppy!)
March 14: Wow I can't believe I haven't updated my website in so long! Been so busy on the SDCA 2010 National site I guess! Plus, call me old, but
I'm having a hard time with Windows 7 filing methodology -- I seem to be hunting for files and programs more than I care for. But I do love my new Toshiba E205 laptop -- cool stuff!
Anyway, huge Happy 8th Birthday to the "E" kids. I really can't believe Litter #5 has achieved such a venerable age. Congratulations to all the wonderful people who have done such a great job of
taking care of them.
And continued congratulations to Bram for continuing to wave the "A" litter flag -- you're one amazing boy! And Medb and her littermates from the C litter still going strong -- 11th birthday coming up on 3/25!
2009: Feb: Fun at Linn Co, Feb 13-14 and some majors! Iagan is BOB both days. Isa wins a major Saturday and goes BBE Group 1! Sunday Louie gets his first major
and the cheering was deafening!
Dec 21:
The year just couldn't leave quietly; 2009 had to claim one more child.
Cloud (Tannochbrae's
Clackamas 3/25/99) left us yesterday at 4pm, probably from a heart attack.
He survived hurricanes in Houston, and winters in Calgary, and recently had a
fantastic cross-USA road trip vacation. He was a
wonderful boy and adored by
the Pfau family. I am so sad for them, and his passing has my heart aching again
for all my other precious children who are now in the canine Elysian Fields.
Farewell my beautiful friends: Cloud, Cali,
Druid, Biff, Fin, Tam, and Arden. And here's hoping 2010 is a much kinder,
much gentler year for us all.
Dec 8:
A lovely surprise in my inbox! Pictures of Lorna and Indie (Tannochbrae's
Indira of Glencrag) who live with the Weddles in Tulsa. Lorna looks just
gorgeous at 10.8 years old. And young Indie is growing well.
Here's my fav.
Nov: Louie garners a wonderful
Best In Match, and
follows it up with Winners Dog/Best of Winners for
his first point.
Oct 29: Another very sad day as we say goodbye to
Cali.
We lost her to pneumonia. She will be missed sorely by the Gillespie
family. Cali was
Mom of my "G" litter, and grand-mom to the "I" litter.
Fabulous courser, and
great overall presence.
Sept 21: A very sad day as we say goodbye to Druid. His heart just couldn't keep
going. Druid was Peggy's first Deerhound, and was the love of her life.
Ch Tannochbraes Ardfillan Hills JC, multiple group
placer, gentleman. His

Sept 20:
Emily finishes her ASFA Field
Championship at the Grand National! Way to go Ms Em, Steve and Joan.
Emily is now DC Tannochbrae's Feanor, FCh!
Sept 6: Ioan and Iona win at Eugene KC. Only one point each but we'll take it!
Iagan was a beautiful Best of Breed, and put on a lovely turn in group.
We were able to get some okay photos of Blade/Sam.

August 29: No particular news, just thought
it was time I updated the page. Here's some more Blade/Sam pix. Favorite
sleeping spots: 1,
2,
3
Oh, and I forgot I did
this page. I need to do one for each of the litters now so there's a
"together" photo record
July 5:
Some pictures of Blade,
Neera's boy, who arrived a week ago today. How soon we forget just how
active puppies can be, especially getting into things they should not! Blade is Litespeed's Blade at Tannochbrae, born April 10 2009.
Pedigree
June 14 Another
Cascade Hound Association weekend has come and gone.
Ioan picked up his
first major on Saturday under Skip Herendeen. Nothing much else as regards
wins, but a great time catching up with Denny, Laura, Allison, Steve and Diana
Kass, and Jean. Had a lovely visit with houseguests Joan and Joe.
Meadow has settled in completely (some pix). We all
doubt she's purebred at this point, thinking some Borzoi may have crept in
there, but it could be anything. There's most definitely a lot of
Deerhound in her pedigree, but not 100%. Anyway we love her and she's
really enjoying romping around with all the dogs.
June 3: We
have a new boarder! Meadow arrived very late Wednesday (actually more like
Thursday morning!) and has settled in quite well. She's needy as expected
but is getting on very well with the other residents. Here's
some pix of her. Today she looks much more fuzzy so as soon as we try and find the
dog underneath, I'll get some pictures. At this point, I have no idea
where she may have come from except I seriously doubt she's from any UK/European
bloodlines.
May 26: What a great
National
Specialty -- I had a fantastic time and what made it extra special was all
those Tannochbrae kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids out strutting their
stuff!! Thank you Bob and Ann with Hanna, Berta and Jim with Kate,
Carmen and Mark (huge congrats on winning the big money event -- Sweepstakes! --
with Lachie's kids), Gale and George with Selene, and of course Joan with the
lovely Emily and Hope! Spending time with Bill Colosimo was truly special,
and hanging out with everyone was joyful!
May 1: Pix
of Neera's babies on May 1st (approx 3 weeks). By way of comparison,
here's the I
litter at 4 weeks.
Apr 10:
Neera has 5 babies! 4 boys, 1 girl, born of Rosslyn Blade courtesy of some
17 year old frozen semen and the surgical expertise of her Mom Julia.
See pix here, and
pedigree here.
Apr 4:
Pippin gets his first points! Timberland was its usual cold, windy venue,
and our major didn't hold because of various injuries (babies will play rough!)
Apr 1: Findlay is gone. Old age finally claimed him, and we're bereft. Going through his
photo album was comforting, as has reading
the wonderful messages people have sent on the news of his passing.
Mar 10: Today we lost the magnificent
Tam. He had complications resulting from adenocarcinoma.
Nicole's heart dog, special boy for Barb Smith and myself.
Feb 14-15: Another wonderful gathering of the clan at Linn County KC shows. As this
weekend normally coincides with the pre-Westminster weekend, usually it's been a
good weekend for us average folk to have a bite at the Group cherry.
Unfortunately we in a "move" year and this was the weekend after Westminster.
We did have a great weekend, finishing Iagan (Ch #43) not only with BW, BOB, but
with a regular Group 1V and a Bred By Group 2!! And little Hebe picks up
not only her first major on Saturday with WB/BOS, but Sunday goes Best of Breed
for 5 points!! All the others looked fantastic and it was great to see so
many of the "I" kids together. Special Woo Hoo to Scottie and David, who brought
our two (delightful) Bobsie twins out again and both girls paid attention and
really behaved well in the ring. Annie especially finally "got it" and
went RWB on Sunday!! Altogether Tannochbrae had 3 litters
represented (G, H, and I).
Feb 6: I'm catching up with all the great pix I've been sent recently. First, "The
Destructo Dogs" Iagan and Isa. Christmas 2008:

Dec 6: Woo Hoo!! Bob and
Hanna go Best of Winners for Hanna's second major and she is now Ch.
Tannochbrae's Happenstance.
Hanna wins the illustrious Champion #42 (the answer to life, the universe,
and everything [ref]).
A lovely
portrait of Hanna with Harry.
Nov 8-9:
A fun weekend at the Willamette Valley KC shows.
Galadriel finished
her CH in great style to become Ch #41
(photo from March 2007). Joe & Joan finished Vaill and Laura Studer
finished her Lehigh boy Ben (Lehigh Darrowby) yesterday. So all in all, a good weekend
with three new champions! We also had a lovely time visiting with Judi
(Pippin), Sherree (Hagrid), Denny (Ronan and Lacey) and meeting Diana Kass,
there with husband Steve and their Hollyrood boy. Jean was there Saturday
with Anabel, and Peggy had Louie so we had another opportunity to see 5 of the
"I" boys together.
October 19th: A huge milestone today as Mr Fin turns 13 years
young. Born Oct 19 1995, he has proven to be an incredibly special,
once-in-a-lifetime dog. In celebration, I've put together a
photo album with captions,
for
everyone to enjoy.

Pedigree
Champion Offspring.
Awards Record
We are also delighted to celebrate we have 5 of
Fin's first offspring still with us at 10+ years old. Way to go Arden,
Druid, Tam, Bram, and Biff.
September 17: What a surprise! Enya's
photo wins the Sleepy Deerhound competition at
www.scottish-deerhound.com! Here's the
winning photo. And
here's Enya's
Best Opposite
photo.
September 13: Last weekend a few of
us went to Eugene just for fun and for practice with the "I" puppies. They
behaved themselves beautifully especially given this was their first indoor show
-- they handled the floors wonderfully and just took everything in their stride.
Winners and Breed both days went to
Iagan who now only needs
a major to finish.
Louie was
Reserve Sat, Ioan on Sunday. Iona
was our only girl so no points for her, but good training. It was a
fun low key weekend and a chance to catch up with Judi and Peggy. Here's a
composite picture of the boys taken at the weekend (except Iagan -- his
photo is from Lompoc so he is a month younger).
July 31: Goodbye sweet
Innes. Another loss to Osteosarcoma.
July 27: Wow!! What a wonderful week at Lompoc!
Iagan's incredible Best in Futurity and
Best Puppy at the Regional. And Hagrid's fantastic
debut....congratulations on your lovely placements. Granddaughter Joy is
now New Ch Charlbury's
Joy
at Glencrag JC.
Hope and
Neera
perform amazing feats on the coursing field and acquit themselves well in the
show ring. Heli and Niles win the
Brace class at the National and get to put their names on a lovely perpetual
trophy!
July 2: Very sad news as we lose another beautiful boy to Osteo.
Marti said goodbye to
Aengus.
Another lovely
photo.
June 28/29: The "I" litter strikes again! At Lost Coast, Iagan
(Egan) is BOB both days, AND picks up a Group 3 and a
Group 4.
Sister Isa
is Winners and Best Opposite on Sunday.
June 22: A huge shock!
Harry is lost to us! Our
beautiful boy gone so fast from complications due to aspiration pneumonia.
June 14/15:
Supported entries at Cascade Hound Association brought out 17
Deerhounds; puppies and adults alike. What a great weekend! We
couldn't have asked for a better debut of the "I" puppies, and in fact Joe and
Joan's Blayne must have been jumping for joy as he looked down on so many
beautiful children. Saturday:
L'Oeil
(Louie to his friends) started out the day with a great Best in Sweeps.
Iagan
went onto Winners and Best of Breed!! Joy was Winners, Best of Opposite
and Best Bred By (and picked up a lovely BBE group 3). Sunday saw Iagan
winning the Sweeps,
Iona,
much to my surprise picking up Winners AND Best of Breed! All told, Blayne's
kids picked up 3 five point majors! Heady stuff.
May 17/18: What a great
weekend. I chose to stay home because the heat would have been just too
much for Fin and Arden to be carted around the countryside...it was actually
quite nice to stay home in the cool and get phone calls with great results!
In Jackson, TN, Ann Hammond and Bob Wilkins showed
Harry and
Hanna and I'm delighted and proud to report that Harry is now Ch
Tannochbrae's Hyndsight JC and
Hanna, not to be outdone, picked up her first
major on Sunday. Harry is Tannochbrae's Ch #39.
In Merlin, OR, at the Rogue Valley KC shows, granddaughter
On Sunday, Joy again is WB/BW for her second major.
And Mr
Niles is BOB, so another great day. Congrats to Michelle, Joe and
Joan with Joy, and big congrats to Joan Garth for Joy's success.
April 26: Woo hoo
Hanna and Bob!
Hanna goes BOS over a top special for 2 points at Clarksville TN.
Mar 14-16:
A big weekend in two parts of the country. Harry and Hanna waved the
Tannochbrae flag at the huge Louisville cluster and acquitted themselves well,
with class wins and Harry's lovely Reserve Winners on Sunday. Woo Hoo!
Here in Oregon we had a small entry at Chintimini
but it was big enough for Fealin to finish her Championship. Way to go
Judi and Fea!
Fea is Ch #38.
(poorly executed photo!).
We also had fun meeting new people and playing with
puppies.
Hagrid
(Tannochbrae's Isildur of Glencrag) went off to his new home with Sherree
Branscum who also has
Eden
(Tannochbrae's Eowyn, 6 years young).
Pippin (Tannochbraes Icon
Glencrag at Willow) came along for the ride but returned home with Judi
Robinson. And as always, there was the lovely
Joy.
Feb 16-24:
Puppies are leaving! Four left the first weekend, one boy yesterday, and two
more this coming weekend.
See candid pix taken

Oct 6-7: Another great weekend at the Shows. Heli (Tannochbrae's Helichrysum JC) finished her Ch on Saturday to become Ch #36 and Niles (Tannochbrae's Hubbub JC) finished on Sunday for Ch #37. Way to go Oz on her nice Reserve Winners on Sunday -- she may end up a show dog in spite of herself!! And beautiful veteran 9 year old Bram (Ch Tannochbrae's Dr Cameron JC) strutted his stuff proudly and soundly on Saturday to great applause. Ms Charley, beautifully handled by Joe Giles, was Best of Breed on Saturday, and Jenya and Zephyr continue their winning ways on Sunday with Breed. How nice to have so much family to visit with and for the "wins" to be shared around (Sharon's Piper WD on Sat, and Denny's Lacey WB on Sun).
Sept 29-30: Harry and Hanna acquit themselves well at Greater
Murfreesboro. Harry is WD/BOS on Saturday for 1 more point, and Hanna's BW garnered her another point. Sunday Harry is RW, and Hanna again is BW for the point.
Sept 8-9: Gaelic is
BOB for her final two points. She's now Ch Tannochbrae's Gaelic. Icing on the cake was a lovely
Group 4 under
Carol Duffy on Saturday. Gaelic is Tannochbrae Ch #35, and Champion #16
for sire Findlay. Gaelic is the sixth (so far, out of 9) in her litter to finish.
Sept 3-August 31: Harry and Hanna are in Lexington. Friday
Harry is BW for 2 points, and
Hanna is RWB.
Saturday and Sunday H&H are RW in hot competition. Monday Harry is BW/BOS!!

August 18: A fun day at the Celtic Highland Games in Winston. Denny came
with Maura, Lacey, and Ella, I brought Charley and Gwynedd, Nancy Aiken brought
Shona, and Marty brought Angus and Morven. As always when Deerhounders are
gathered we had great food and conversation. We marched in the Parade of
Clans and were a big hit! Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of the

April 25-29: National Specialty.
Harry and Hanna (and Bob and Ann of course) flew the Tannochbrae banner
high. Harry started the week by gaining his
JC certification in grand style.
Later he placed in his class and Hanna made cut in a huge Am Bred class.
I'm so proud of Ann entering
Brace
(photo © 2007 Dan Gauss) and doing an
excellent job for her first time! Hanna was also a big hit with the
mentoring judges who had an ad hoc "hands-on" with her following her class.
April 11: Goodbye

April: Ms
Charley (Ch Tannochbrae's Firiel)

daughter (pedigree) finished
her title so she is now Ch Gwent's Margaret of Scotland.
Margaret is Fin's 4th offspring to finish
this year (so far), following Gwill, Zeph, and Gwynnie.
Feb 10-11: What a fantastic
weekend we had. The weather cooperated so Judi was able to join us without
having to battle blizzards.
Saturday under Mrs Olmos-Olliver,
Judi and Fea were Winners Bitch and Best of Winners, and Jenya and
Zephyr got
the dog points. Tori and Charley debuted as Specials, and Tori was Best of
Breed. The icing on the cake was Tori's Group 3 placement, followed by Gwynedd's
Bred By Exhibitor Group 2.
Sunday under Jackie Hungerland,
Jenya and Zephyr again took the dog points TO FINISH! And much to my
surprise, Gwynedd not only went Winner's Bitch but Best of Breed TO FINISH!
It was a long wait till group, but oh so worth it when Dr Hungerland gave
Gwynedd Group 2 to the Saluki, who then went onto Best In Show. I'm
still glowing.....
Jan 22:
Jan 13:
Neera, Tannochbrae's
Gwyneira, is awarded her JC!
Jan 12:
Zephyr (Tannochbrae's Gwydion)

will be the first of many group awards for them.

Dec 12: Latest Factor VII

Oct 21-22:

Harry is BOB Sunday. Congrats to
Bob and Ann for continuing to showcase these beautiful babes.
Oct 8-9: Cascade Hound Association.
Tannochbrae had a great weekend starting with the lovely
Rhiannon going WB and now
needs only 1 point to finish! She also finished her JC a
little while ago!
Gwillym,
not to be outdone, picked up his third major and now needs just 4 points to
finish. Hebe and
Zephyr
were the reserves on Saturday with Hebe also being Best Bred By Exhibitor.
Sunday wasn't quite as exciting but Zephyr and
